West Somerset Internet cic (WSI) is a newly formed Community Interest Company which has been established as a commercial venture with the support of Somerset County Council and West Somerset District Council to provide broadband infrastructure to individuals, businesses & communities in areas in West Somerset which are not served with effective broadband access at present. WSI's current service coverage includes, Crowcombe, Brompton, Upton & Luxborough. The service will be extended to cover additional areas where there is no present access and certain other areas of West Somerset and the Exmoor National Park where existing (BT and Cable) suppliers do not provide a service which is sufficient for modern business. West Somerset Internet cic is a sister company to, and managed by, Abbotsbury Software Ltd of West Street, Abbotsbury, whose Managing Director Tim Snape has had over 17 years experience in Internet and related matters and has successfully rolled out Wireless Broadband to rural areas in West Dorset (click here for link to Abbotsbury Software Ltd). It is intended in due course to link the networks for West Somerset to those in West Dorset, for reasons of redundancy, capacity and load sharing, which is expected to be to the considerable advantage of both.
